Whitehall Township Advances MacArthur Road Plans
19-Apr-2011
URDC and
Benchmark Civil Engineering Services, Inc. has been hired by Whitehall Township to develop a revitalization plan for the oldest portion of MacArthur Road. The project area is located along MacArthur Road from the Sumner Avenue bridge at the City of Allentown line to Fairmont Avenue, south of Route 22. The area from the Allentown line north to Route 22 includes the former Lehigh Valley Dairy, Home Depot, Jordan Bowling Lanes, retail shops and vacant buildings.
URDC's first step in assisting the Township with the planning process
will include us as a guest speaker at the Whitehall Economic Summit.
Mayor Ed Hozza Jr. said the township commissioners, Whitehall-Coplay School Board,
township Industrial and Commercial Development Authority, Coplay Borough Council and Whitehall Area Chamber of Commerce will meet 6:30 p.m. April
28 at Whitehall High School.
"This economic summit will give all the
governing bodies the information they will need for reinvestment in the
township." The meeting is open to the public and will be located in the Whitehall High School Instructional Room.
URDC is very excited about this project as many of its employees live, shop and recreate in this area. URDC also completed the
Jordan Creek Greenway which is planned to cross through the study area. "This evening they [township commissioners] passed a historic study for
the historic shopping district, which was the early beginning of the
Golden Strip", Hozza Jr. said.
